This past Saturday, the 9th of October, there was an invasion of sorts in Long Beach. It was the LB Street Food Fest, which featured 28 of Southern California's top Gourmet Food Trucks. Aside from the uncharacteristic heat for an October day, it was AWESOME! I had invited a few of my friends down to join in on the fun and hang with my girl and I. We even got a chance to spend some time with Lou & Sue (dad & step-mom), and there was a guest appearance by my niece. Friends, family and food, what could be better? Yes, I'm sure we could all think of a few things, but that was a rhetorical question...
While St. Patrick's Day traditions don't generally bring marathons to mind the Shamrock is a great tradition for young and old alike. What a great way to celebrate, see some world class runners and support many wonderful charities such as Operation Smile, the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Team In Training (TNT) program, the Virginian Pilot Joy Fund bringing holiday happiness and gifts to nearly 26,000 underprivileged children in Norfolk, Chesapeake, Portsmouth, Suffolk, Virginia Beach, City of Franklin, Virginia's Eastern Shore corned beef and onion pie Isle of Wight Count, the Mike McGreevy Memorial Scholarship Fund and Hope of the Warriors.
Pumpkin Pie Spice is a blend of allspice, cinnamon, cloves, ginger and nutmeg. It is traditionally used to flavor many holiday treats but also goes well with pancakes corned beef and cabbage French toast.
The holiday remembers St. Patrick, one of Ireland's patron saints. St. Patrick was born to a family of aristocrats in Whales and was set on course to become a priest. He was captured at 16 years of age slow cooker corned beef and cabbage taken to Ireland by Irish raiders. For six years, he was held captive, but was also able to grow spiritually during this time. He believed he heard the voice of God commanding him to leave Ireland, so he escaped to Britain after walking hundreds of miles.

The Twisted Vine is offering a special St. Patrick's Day menu while a band from Danbury called The Pears will be playing in the lounge.
Today's traditional meal of corned beef and cabbage came about around the turn of the century, when Irish immigrants living in the Lower East Side of New York City substituted corned beef for Irish bacon, in order to save money. The practice has lived on to this day. Interestingly enough, corned beef is now more expensive than bacon.
Food are divided in two categories, perishables and non-perishables. Fresh meat and leafy vegetables are not suitable during camping. If you are camping near fishing sites, you can fish for a dose of fresh food; otherwise, content yourself with canned food and hardy vegetables. slow cooker slow cooker corned beef boiled dinner and cabbage, sardines, and beans are good choices. Throw in cans of asparagus, mushrooms, and soup for hearty meals. Packaged cakes, cookies, and bread are also good with a variety of spreads. It is recommended to bring your own drinking water if you are squeamish about drinking camp water.
Over 100 musical acts, dance troops, families and more are expected at this event. The Madison Parade culminates a week of St. Patrick's festivities. "All That is Irish".The festivities start at 10 am with a Shamrock Shuffle. At Noon is the Irish Flag Ceremony at the Capitol Rotunda.. The St. Pat's Parade steps off at 1:30 pm. A raffle drawing for a free trip to Ireland is held at Brocade Irish club at 3:00 pm.
